Why Music

There is a boy who loves music more than anything, but his parents can’t afford lessons, and without a car, they can’t take him anywhere for them.  Still, music is his escape, his constant.   His teachers recognized this and with the financial aid of the Alexandria Music Makers Scholarship Fund lessons became a reality.  They were a game-changer!  Every lesson is a chance to learn and be part of something bigger.  His enthusiasm for music makes him well-liked in the bands he's playing and he's able to connect with others who share his passion.

On the days he has lessons, everything feels easier.   Even when he’s frustrated with math or other challenges at school, music gives him something to look forward to -- it turns tough days into good ones.   While a college scholarship feels like a distant dream, he keeps practicing because he knows it could be a step toward something bigger.  For now, it’s not about the future -- it’s about making the most of each day one at a time.  Music gives his life purpose and stability.

Help us at the Alexandria Music Makers Scholarship Fund provide music instruction to children who cannot afford to learn music otherwise.   Give children in your community the chance to be part of something bigger and forge their way into a bright future.

From a brain development standpoint, we were musicians long before we were talking to one another.  The neuro networks that create music are far older than those that create speech.
